Israel to allow same-sex couples to adopt

Israel's attorney general has decided that same-sex couples can adopt children, a victory for Israeli gays that has infuriated the country's conservative religious establishment.

The decision by Attorney General Meni Mazuz, announced by Israel's Justice Ministry on Sunday, follows other recent successes for Israeli gays.

Court decisions in recent years have forced the government to recognize same-sex marriages performed abroad and grant gay couples inheritance rights and benefits given to other married Israelis.
