QLD: Beattie promises blitz on youth jobless

Queensland Premier PETER BEATTIE says the government has found an extra $25 million
to fund job training for 1,200 unemployed youths.

Mr BEATTIE says it's new money to build on the government commitment to youth traineeships.

Campaigning in the Brisbane marginal Labor seat of Mansfield, Mr BEATTIE says there
will be traineeships in landscaping and land care in conjunction with local councils and
community groups.

He says part of the program will provide support to stop early school leavers falling
through the cracks.

He says it's important they deal with the issue of youth unemployment.

The Premier says Queensland has Australia's lowest youth unemployment.

When told the latest figures showed Queensland among the highest at over 29 per cent,
Mr BEATTIE said the trend figures were down.
