MELBOURNE, April 22 AAP - Victoria's manufacturing union will decide this morning whetherto continue its affiliation with the Australian Labor Party.
Affiliation is the first item on the agenda at the annual branch conference of theAustralian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU).
The union's 130 delegates will debate the issue on behalf of 60,000 members.
An AMWU spokesman said today delegates would vote on whether to remain affiliated tothe ALP, suspend the affiliation or get out altogether.
"It's very likely the tap will be turned off," he said.
"There's a lot of discontented members out there.
Today's AMWU vote follows the resignation from the ALP last month of Electrical TradesUnion (ETU) state secretary Dean Mighell.
Mr Mighell moved his allegiances to the Greens Party but told AAP at the time he wouldnot be encouraging the ETU to sever its ALP ties.
"We may look at setting up similar links with other parties," he said.
The AMWU affiliation fee is worth $250,000 a year to the ALP.
