NSW: Thredbo evacuation begins, Blues Festival cancelled

SYDNEY, Jan 17 AAP - An evacuation of Thredbo village has started, forcing the cancellationof a major blues festival, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said today.
A spokesman for the RFS Jindabyne Fire Control section, Stuart Cohen, said the evacuationbegan this evening and would move 700 to 1,000 people out of the area.
"The evacuation of Thredbo village has commenced shortly before 7pm (AEDT)," Mr Cohen told AAP.
